Review of Tornado, West Virginia

In transition
Star Rating - 8/30/2006
"Transition" is the best term I can use to describe our community. After 125 years of subtle discrimination by the rest of the world, we're finally standing up and taking control of our own destiny.

You see, after the Civil War, the federal government changed the name of our town from Upper Falls to Tornado. Would you prefer to live and work in a place called Tornado or one named Upper Falls? The answer is obvious.

So, after the Civil War, nothing happened here until the 1960's, when the golf course was built. Then, some homes were constructed in the seventies and about three more in the new century.

But, do you know of another community of this size that doesn't even have a place to buy gas for a car? Or a convenience store? Or a restaurant? How about a hair salon? Maybe a supermarket? A doctor's office? A community center? A swimming pool? That's right. Absolutely no one knows of another single place of this size with absolutely no necessities or conveniences.

Finally, the folks with the Upper Falls Community Association stood up and had the courage to talk about the problem. Their plan is to take back our beloved name, Upper Falls, and build on that foundation to make a better life for everyone here. Let's pray that they succeed.
