Just north of Fort Lauderdale is a great community - Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. There are some old Florida-type homes and shops, but the developers have arrived and taken over many of the beachfront hotels to build $1 Million condos. It's still nice, but sad in many ways that the old has to be destroyed.
