Looking to relocate to Portage

Hello,
We are considering re-locating to Portage from Milwaukee. We were up there last month for the biannual church service at the German Methodist church, and LOVED the area. Can anyone tell me more about what it's like to live there and what the job market is like? I'm a web designer with customers all over the country, so I won't have much problem no matter where we go as long as I can get high speed internet access. But my husband will need to find a job. He's a skilled painter/drywaller and can do alot of other construction type jobs, such as cutting and laying tile, framing in walls, etc. Last year he gutted an old house and rebuilt the inside so he's pretty handy! Any information you can give would be appreciated!!
