Review of Madison, Alabama

With the world to choose from, we CHOSE Huntsville
Star Rating - 2/23/2019
When my husband and I were retiring from the military, we CHOSE Huntsville and the Madison County area as our final home place and sure enough, it's been the best move we ever made. The economy is moderate as compared to many places we'd been previously. The tax rates are very low when you put them up against his home state and the proximity to everything we need is incredible. We are less than two hours from Nashville or Birmingham. We are less than four hours from Atlanta or Memphis and around five hours to the beach or the Smoky mountains. When we want to go further, we have an International Airport that can connect us to flights all over the world. We have found that property values and the real estate market allowed us to get SO much more for our money and the crime rate in comparison to our last duty station in El Paso or even that of his home state is so much lower. Granted we open carry and also have concealed carry permits should we ever have an issue but that comes from our natural tendency to be the protectors as military personnel. We have plenty of things to do here for entertainment and the music scene, while it was seriously lacking or you had to know the right people for several years, is coming around to be pretty exciting. We're always seeing new and different acts at various places around town. Overall, it was the best financial decision we could have made and the culture really is true Southern hospitality embodied. For the most part the people here are really friendly. When we meet someone who is not, it turns out, most often, they are not from this area. The fact that there are more engineers and doctorate holding intellects here than anywhere else in the world is truly intriguing but not surprising with the many industries, tech and research companies here in the Tennessee Valley. With the world to choose from and a dual citizenship to a beautiful country in Europe and family in another country in Europe, we could have chosen ANYWHERE in the world to live. We are so very happy that we specifically picked this area!
