Review of Celebration, Florida

The schools stink!
Star Rating - 9/9/2007
Celebration seems like a nice town, but it lacks any culture or diversity. 98% of the people that live here are white. People do nothing but complain and gossip. Although they have some nice parks they lack areas for bike riding and other outdoor activities. You rarely see families walking or biking together. Instead they lazily load up their SUV's to drive 5 blocks to school. People are very narrow minded and although they want change for their education system, they do nothing but complain. All of their efforts are spent complaining with no action at all to back it up. The school is horrible. Look at the stats and how little they spend compared to the rest of the USA. Celebration residents are fooled because they have the mind set that their community is special therefore their education is superior but it is not. It is the same exact failing education and curriculumn that the rest of Osceola County is getting. If your children are passing in Osceola County, expect them to be behind in other states because Florida education systems falls very last on test scores.

If you want your children to have a real education I suggest you don't live here. If you are older and looking for a place to retire this would be nice.
Although the weather is hot, humid and the air smells of dirty swamp. Not to mention the bugs.

“Celebration seems like a nice town, but it lacks any culture or diversity. 98% of the people that live here are white.” My parents live there, are of Italian descent and have more class and culture in their pinkies then you have in your entire soul. Italians weren’t part of the Renaissance, we WERE the Renaissance. Try getting out and talking to people and you’ll that “white people” have very cultured backgrounds as well, from various European countries……and you may learn something…

Time out... We need to revisit this. I have lived in Celebration for 8 years and do not agree with this assessment. Is it perfect, No. Is it better than most, YES. The Arthur of the other post must not have seen what we see ever day. There are at least 10 parks, all open to anyone to use. They are Public, but privately maintained. Only one has controlled access. As far as biking, Celebration has over 5 miles of trails (actually alot more i think), not to mention some of the prettiest streetscapes to look at. I see adults and families outside doing all sorts of healthy activities all the time. The schools have gone thur a lot of the years, with the K-12 being the best in my opinion with local children representing 90% of enrolled student. We now have a k-8 with a excellent principle and a regional High school sadly with less than 20% of the students living in Celebration. The k-8 is one of the finest in the state and the High School now has a IB program which I have a child in. I feel they are getting a Lake Highland education without paying $15k plus a year except I think the income demographics for Lake Highland is much higher if that is a concern. We actually tried Winter Park HS one year which is a fine public school in Orange and was a A, however it came with affluent community problems like Drugs, sex, alcohol and my children asked to return to Celebration. Celebration is a special place that still has Home Town values. Schools are always important, however so are Family values, and a child's exposure to the World. While Disney planned Celebration and built the foundation, it is the people that make it what it is. No matter where you live, if you do not get involved and enjoy the benefits it will never be worthwhile.
