Review of Houston, Texas

What Houston is all about
Star Rating - 10/21/2018
I've lived here since 1987, having lived in New York City, Miami Beach, Atlanta and Charlotte with memories of short stays i n Nashua and Rochester ,NY. On the good side, it is the most convenient city you could find as far as amenities, shopping, restaurants, coffee shops , museums, parks and beach walking on Galveston beaches. It is divided into 10 regions according to the points on a compass with downtown\Galleria\Medical center being in the center of it all. In this center core you have your nicest, most beautiful and expensive neighborhoods and most beautiful amenities; parks and restaurants. On the negative side, high crime, a huge low income population base, decreasing percentage of white population so even though people scream ...liberal people brag\ scream .....that Houston is so progressive because it's so ...diverse...they mean that it's diverse to all races and cultures except for....white people...the demographic in Houston is Mexican and Central American with black and few remaining white except in certain very high priced enclaves. Yet I don't hear the Latin community tell that we need more white people to diversify the city. do you ever hear Latina or blacks scream for diversity like liberal whites do? Major Problem. Traffic as pointed out is, like any city, is bad but for it's size, there are so many worse cities for traffic. The absolute worst are.....and its really, reallly bad is around the Galleria area ,especially on Post Oak Dr.....and they continue to throw up more skyscrapers instead of putting them downtown which could absorb the construction ,and why?....because the homeless and street people ,who are constantly wandering around downtown and around the courthouses and midtown, create a rotten environment for future construction....just try walking the streets by yourself at night or stand at a metro rail station dressed in a golf shirt or regular clean clothes: you will be harassed unless you dress in liberal street clothes, t shirt, dungarees and sneakers. Of course the flooding is possibly the worse thing to happen to Houston and this since the weather changes in the past 10 years. You must buy flood insurance and, along with school taxes on your property are really high , but, of course there is no state tax. Galveston beaches are fine, it's just the color of the water that changes according to the direction of the wind and water\sediment runoff from all the rivers that wash up on the shore during high rainy periods. Unfortunately this means that some of your visits to Galveston will be disappointing due to the sediment churning to a coffee with cream color. Usually the water is grey brackish green but many times especially in the winter, the water can be a nice blue green. I'm a warm weather person so the humidity doesn't bother me except for July going into August. There are 4 months of steamy hot weather and 8 months of relatively nice weather with a mild pleasant winter. But Hurricane Harvey has done me in and along with the lack of a white population base,I'm planning on leaving . Houston can now join LA and Miami for being the 3 most Latin US cities that make it impossible for white people to live safely in their midst and are the least diverse for whites.
