Review of Evanston, Wyoming

You're not from here? Then you're not welcome.

I moved here in 2016. That was probably a mistake, which I hope to fix very soon.

Positives: quiet place, no traffic issues, WY has no income tax. There are two really nice things about Evanston: the Bear River State Park is small but really nice for walks or picnics; and the Evanston Recreation Center, which has pretty much all the facilities you could ask for, including two really nice swimming pools. The staff there are all very nice.

Negatives: people here are not friendly. I've tried really hard to get involved in the community, offering to volunteer at a dozen or so local charities and places that said they needed volunteers, but then got the question, "you're not from here, are you?" and suddenly they no longer needed volunteers. I've met a grand total of 3 people in town that have bothered to learn my name and treat me like a neighbor (and all of them were met in a commercial environment.) As someone else said in another review, a few families pretty much run the town and they all belong to the Mormon Church, so if you've got the wrong last name and belong to the wrong church, you're out of luck here. Evanston is a very clannish, closed community.

Another thing to consider is the wind. And when I say wind, I would say it is very windy here about 75% of the time. Summer is also very short here, with long, cold, snowy winters. If you don't mind the weather, and you're not sociable at all, you might like it here.

I cannot agree with much of your review, you did not say where you came from but i've lived in Northern CA, Southern CA, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Texas and prob a couple states i'm forgetting. Been in Evanston for 15 years and find it as friendly as anywhere i've ever lived. Yes there are families that have been here for generations and i've found them to be some of the most friendly. I'd hardly say they run the town. I also doubt that you tried to volunteer a dozen times and were rejected every time. I was also an outsider but have never in 15 years, even once been treated the way you are portraying this town.

I couldn't agree more with comment . The people in this town are rude and backstabbing . If you are from another state you are not welcome in this town . The people of this town are mostly LDS and have the attitude of being superior . There are prominent families that run this town and have no problem trying to run you out . The residents of this town like to ruin other peoples reputations . They seem to have a problem with people from California in particular. If you are not LDS or live the way they think you should be living your life they are talking about you behind your back the sad thing is they are no better but it makes them feel better to talk about other people to make their lives more satisfactory . This town also has a high suicide ,drug and alcohol rate . Don't get me wrong the town has it's good points Bear River state park is awesome for hikes and picnics . The rec center is really nice and I have met a few good people here . But the majority is rude and standoffish . I lived here for 12 yrs and am glad I no longer live here . And as for work there is none businesses are leaving and long time residents including natives from here are moving in order to find jobs . I wouldn't recommend this town to anyone
