Review of Glen Ellyn, Illinois

My husband and I moved to Glen Ellyn from Chicago in 1993 when our first child was born. One thing you should know about GE is that it is spread out and there is an "in town" part of GE and an unincorporated part of GE. This is an "in town" review. I agree with Fiona that the neighborhood is safe, walkable, and we know who our neighbors are. It is a great place to raise a family. The park district is excellent with facilities like indoor soccer fields and a neighborhood pool/waterpark and there is one private and one public golf course in the neighborhood. The Prairie Path, which extends through the western suburbs, runs right through the downtown area providing miles and miles of safe biking, jogging, and walking. There are many outstanding public and private schools to choose from. College of DuPage, along with the MAC Theatre, is a world class 2 year college. There is a lovely downtown area with a charming neighborhood movie theatre and it is centrally located, just 25 miles west of downtown Chicago. The real estate taxes are high, but they are high in all desirable neighborhoods/suburbs in Chicagoland. Maybe we will see you at the next Boat Regatta :)
