Review of Yorkville, Illinois

3 years later, i have to agree with bill. yorkville is going downhill. at first it was a very nice town but the economy has taken it's toll visisbly. there have been at least 4 restaurants we used to go to close down. there have been no new shops in town but more than a few have gone out of business. cash for gold places are popping up everywhere and also boot camps.

when i look at realty listings almost every commercial propterty is for sale or foreclosing. so that portion of living in yorkville has gotten worse. the housing is just unaffordable because of property taxes. we have been trying to buy a house here for 3 years. we have never found a house we liked that had property taxes we were willing to pay. the taxes in yorkville are just too high.

the waterpark raging waves is still epic. our family loves the summer at the waterpark. this year we have noticed it is much more crowded. in the local paper 2 guys were arrested this summer for video taping kids in their swimsuits. so yes a lot more lowlifes have been moving into yorkville. also we only saw 2 other kids we know from school, so i don't know if everyone is just broke from paying property taxes, or if they are worried about the creeps. to raging waves credit their security is on the lookout for these types and don't tolerate it.

we do a lot of outdoor activities and yorkville does still have some nice forest preserves for hiking. plano has a lot of free stuff for families, outdoor days, fishing activities at silver springs state park. so if you enjoy that type of thing yorkville area is still good for that. but that brings up the battle over bike paths. yorkville has none and it would be a lot nicer with some, but no one wants to pay for it anymore.

our kids have been in the yorkville school system for 6 years now. the schools are still nice for us. the school system is probably the main thing that is keeping us here at this point. they still offer daily gym classes and recess, weekly art and music classes, as well as band and orchestra starting at grade 5. I don't think they rate that high acamically. but my kids seem to have a pretty rigorous curriculum and are learning a lot. they have maps testing and other testing that other schools don't have. the school families are generally nice and very involved. we get bus service, which some people i know don't get or they only get 1 trip a day. we have 2 buses come to our house twice a day. our kids go to different schools. i like the way they break up the kids grade levels. k-3, then 4-6, then middle school 7,8 then high school.

More crime, high taxes, struggling businesses. that is what has been happening in yorkville for the past 3 years. i don't know if this is what every town is going through because of the bad economy? or if our town has just been poorly managed.
