Scotts Valley: an excellent place to live - 5/25/2020
I've owned a home and lived in Scotts Valley for 11 years, with a hill between us and the freeway. It is a pleasant blend of suburban and rural living, with forested mountains and hiking paths all around. There is a short commute to downtown Santa Cruz and the beach. With neighboring Santa Cruz being a college town and a destination for tourism, there is a good amount of entertainment and fun things to do, relative to the county's population size. Scotts Valley has been a quiet, safe, peaceful bedroom community, with people often commuting to work away from town -- increasingly many make the sometimes arduous trek over 17 to Silicon Valley. With new developments cropping up on every vacant lot and accessible hillside, it is starting to feel more crowded. Scotts Valley has about two dozen restaurants as well as all the basic services you would expect in a small town. While its expensive to live here, it's a lot less than over the hill, for a generally better quality of life. Note:

I've lived in Santa Cruz my whole life.
I've never heard or witnessed a ferel cat problem here once. In fact we have more than 1 non-opp organization dedicated solely to the rescue and recovery of ferel cats.
In regards to your complaint about the roads being too bumpy for your cruiser bike, sorry, we had a 6.9 crippling earthquake in '89 that left irreversible physical damage to our city. Totally the city's officals fault, though... right?
Only seen a couple of rigs, gross. Our beaches however would be a lot less contaminated if tourists would clean up after themselves.
The homeless population and cost of housing is a very real issue. It needs to be changed.
