What BestPlaces Users Say about South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe is a popular tourist destination located in California, known for its beautiful lake and ski resorts. However, many people also call this place their home. In this particular zip code, 96150, there is a mix of both permanent residents and vacation homeowners. The town offers a variety of outdoor activities, restaurants, and a small-town community vibe. However, it also has its challenges such as high cost of living and seasonal job availability. Let's take a look at what some users have to say about living in this unique place.
1. From user "MelindaM" - "I've been living in South Lake Tahoe for 10 years now and I absolutely love it. The views are breathtaking, the community is tight-knit, and there's always something to do. However, the cost of living has definitely increased over the years and finding stable year-round employment can be a struggle."
2. From user "JakeSki" - "Living in South Lake Tahoe is like being on vacation every day. Skiing in the winter, hiking and boating in the summer, it's a dream come true for outdoor enthusiasts. The only downside is the influx of tourists during peak seasons, which can make it feel overcrowded at times."
3. From user "SarahB" - "I moved to South Lake Tahoe last year and it's been a big adjustment. The housing market is tough and the winter weather can be harsh. But the sense of community here is unlike any other place I've lived. People are friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand."
4. From user "Mark123" - "South Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to live, but it can feel isolated at times. It's a small town with limited amenities, so you have to be okay with driving out of town for certain things. Overall, I love the slower pace of life here and the natural beauty that surrounds us."

Many Pros, but also Many Cons - 1/29/2023
I've lived here 23 years. I recently retired and am thinking of moving. The good things are outdoor recreation, sunny dry climate, great location close to a lot of variety. I own my home so housing prices are not an issue for me but it is very expensive if you are looking to buy or rent in today's market. What is lacking for me is arts and culture and more community. Everything seems geared toward tourism. The main drag through town is crushed with tourists all summer and on holiday weekends year round. We don't have Trader Joes or Costco. You have to drive to Carson City, NV for those. In recent years, our air quality in August and September has been bad due to wildfire smoke blowing in.
