The "tourist" area - 2/8/2008
Incredibly expensive -- our extended family ALL live in places SO TINY we can't do family holidays together except at the beach -- any beach. My husband & I are locals, for a month or two a year. The rest of the time, we live on the mainland b/c we're not able to afford otherwise. Then there were the 40days/40 nights of rain a little over a year ago, and the ugly huge sewage pipe set up along the Ala Wai Canal to prove it -- and no promise that it will EVER be removed!!! Places DID get flooded in various spots on Oahu, and probably other places on the other islands as well. So, it's a fine place to visit, but living there is a LOT more problematic. DO consider how much frequent trauma you can manage, along with how nice it might be to live on an
