River, Boating and Beach at your doorstep - 3/17/2015
The neighborhood of Humarock Beach is a peninsula of land belonging to the town of Scituate, MA. In the great storm of 1898, the beach was breached from Scituate and connected to the town of Marshfield at the other end of the peninsula. This changed the flow of the North and South rivers, which now both meet at the new mouth at 4th Cliff and the mainland of Scituate. This opening is considered the second most dangerous mouth in the northeast. Boaters enter the mouth and have access to the North River in one direction and the South River in the other as well as "The Spit" which is a spit of land like a sand bar that gets exposed as the tide recedes . We live up on the upper South River with our own marina and the beach is across the street. We can kayak on both rivers through the winding marsh , or take the boat out to open water.
