I used to like living here. - 8/12/2008
Detroit, has a bad reputation. I have lived here since I was 5 years old and I'm now 63. I have seen the good times and the bad times. This is not a city I'd recommend for a young growing family or for retirees. The metro suburbs are great. The city is fine for young singles who are street smart or have a degree in the medical fields or want to attend the fine universities here. There are no Major stores for shopping everything is in the suburbs but there is many fine restaurants in downtown Detroit. There are many fine neighborhoods but so many are bordered by main streets where crime and decay are an eyesore. Most of my friends and relatives are in the suburbs and when I say I still live in Detroit most people react as though I've just confessed to being a criminal. I love the four seasons and the cold winters are a challenge but I find the cost of living in Detroit is much higher than the suburbs because you have to travel so far out of your neighborhood for everything and the Read More
