Voted one of the best places to live, by a recent publication (Budget Living), Catskill is changing. Born and bred here, I can attest to this fact.
Home to the Hudson River School of Painters, this area is a river front community, with two lovely water front parks and beautiful mountain views. Access to NYC is easy via the Taconic parkway or Amtrak station, not more than 15 minutes away. Outdoor recreation opportunities are good, boating, hiking, skiing, etc.
Local shopping is limited, with Catskill Commons and Main Street being the two options. Our Main Street has seen many changes lately, not sure if all this is good- as our local planning board seems to pander to city interests. Many of these shoppes are transient and don't serve the overall needs of our community. Housing prices are reasonable, taxes average and healthcare access is minimal. Can't speak much about the schools, but there is a new elementary school which opened about 4 years ago. Best bet
