The Fairfax County area of Northern Virginia in Suburban Washington DC is an extremely nice area in which to raise a family; the school system is one of the 10 best in the country; the cultural environment of Washington is hard to match because so many museums and events are free. The area is still pretty green and a lot of parks are easily accessible. The Shenandoah National Park is only about 1 hour west of the county.
