Housing ans schools - 12/4/2015
I'm a recent home owner in Woodbridge Virginia. During the time I shopped for housing (in 2014), the average cost per house was between 350-400K. The homes have excellent and sizeable lots with many on cul-de-sacs that reduce the amount of traffic in the local neighborhoods. There are many split level homes accommodating parent/child separate living spaces with shared kitchens. There are several elementary, middle and high schools for the high school age population of the area. The major highways are heavily congested with prolonged commutes to D.C. and outlying major job areas. There is a HOV and EZ Pass options to those who can't wait. The quality of the homes makes the traffic inconvenience worth it. There are plenty of local and nearby shopping malls. The cost of living is above average, and 2 incomes are necessary.  Read More

The Woodbridge area offers a little less flexibility in the established modes for the daily commute than most other venues in the Northern Virginia corridor. It is an extensive bedroom community that lies beyond the well established mass transit infrastructure. Even in today's market with more people choosing to travel using mass transit alternatives, those from the Woodbridge and bedroom communities to the south continue to favor the cowboy alternative, "Slugging" to mass transit. It provides those who ride with the least expensive and most flexible daily commute and for those who drive, it reduces the trip in half. It is not condoned by any government agency and it has worked without incident for well over twenty years. I've been Read More
