The good and the bad... - 10/29/2009
One of the better things about Winfield would be the educational system for children; which ranks literally as one of the best in the state. The mostly rural (yet somewhat suburban) area is about half between Huntington and Charleston; enjoying the benefits of being somewhat close to both cities while keeping a bit of distance. The area has close access to Route 64 and several other two lane rural highways. A majority of Winfield is also directly along the Kanawha river; especially useful if one enjoys river recreational activities.
A major disappointment about the area is the closeness to heavy industry such as the John Amos power plant. This plant has an established history of placing mass polution into the air and water. This can pose a great danger to ones health; especially if one has young children or happens to be pregnant.
