Berwick borough in Pennsylvania is located along the Susquehanna River in Columbia County between Bloomsburg and Wilkes Barre/Scranton metropolitan areas. Founded in 1789 by Scottish settlers who had come through Philadelphia, Berwick became known for being a major urban center during most of its existence with coal mining transitioning into steel fabrication during the industrial revolution era until that industry declined beginning in late 20th century.
