The Nome Census Area of Alaska is located in western Alaska along the coast of the Bering Sea. It covers an area of over 21,000 square miles and has a population just under 10,000 people. This region was historically home to Native Alaskans who relied greatly on subsistence fishing for their livelihoods. Today, this borough still has a strong fishing industry plus more modern industries such as oil drilling and tourism.
