Atchison County was established in 1855 by settlers from northern states who migrated into this region shortly after formation of Kansas Territory in May 1854 per provisions laid out by the Kansas-Nebraska Act of that same year.. Its current population stands at 16,376 people as per 2019 estimates while its capital city however still remains Atchison Town which also serves as major trading center for surrounding consumers alike from town’s residents.
