Piscataquis County is a county located in east central Maine. It borders Somerset and Franklin counties to the north and Penobscot County to its east. Its county seat is Dover-Foxcroft and it covers an area of 3,484 square miles with a population of 16,735 people according to 2019 census estimates. Although historically reliant on agriculture and forestry for much of its economic output, today tourism plays a major role in driving local economic growth. There are several outdoor activities that can be enjoyed year-round including fishing, hunting, camping and canoeing/kayaking on one of its numerous rivers or lakes.
