Pocahontas County is located in the extreme southeastern corner of the state and has a population of around 8500 people. With its rural landscape made up largely of national forests and parks, Pocahontas County has become an outdoor recreational Mecca; it is known in particular for its whitewater rafting and skiing opportunities. The county also features a number of cultural attractions, such as the Mountain Craft Days Festival which celebrates American mountain heritage with traditional music, dancing and crafts.
