small town, needs a little growth, but OK. -
3/16/2023I've lived here for just over a year. Had I known then what I know now, I probably would not have moved here.
Here are my observations:
1. Cost of living here is crazy high! (unless you are comparing to California, or the NW)
2. I'm conservative. This is a great place for that! so anyone who comes here from "progressive" states thinking they will change this place and turn it into the mess they left, will not be welcome here.
3. The climate here is not all that great. But it is better than phoenix! the wind blows ALL the time! and winter time it is freezing cold!
4. Not much in the way of shopping. We go once a month into Vegas to do our major shopping.
5. Not much to do for entertainment. There is the lakes, and if you 4x4 then there is that, and certain times of the year you can hike before it gets too hot. Winter so far has been crazy! There is Laughlin about a 1 hour away.
6. Very little in the way of any good employment!
7. LOTs of retired people and snow birders. Old folks doddling around, so have your patience on.
8. the roads in and out of town are terrible! and the ADOT claim they do not have the funds to fix them, even tho they keep saying there is going to be a interstate 11 put in... been saying that for 10 years.
9. Lastly, the one good thing I have to say is most of the local people are nice and friendly. I find that most of the long time "local" I have met are cowboy red neck types.
Hey and its desert! lots of brown, cactus, and sun, and everything wants to poke or bite you here!
Beaverton, OR
no longer a wonderful place to live -
10/4/2021used to be fantastic! moved here 25 years ago. at that time beaverton schools were 2nd in the nation. cost of living was low, great paying jobs, and low traffic. Liberal politics was manageable. Now here we are 25 years later and thousands of californians flooding in here. Not just Beaverton but the entire valley. changing all of this and making Oregon another crap hole Califoni !! so very sad. the home I raised my kids in is no longer enjoyable. its not worth living here anymore and we must search to move. So,,,, if are a left extremes, and love socialism and having all your rights taken from you, and have the state control your every move, and tax you to the hilt, then by all means this is your place! but do your homework and really research oregon politics out.

9/24/2020so just wondering... is your review a joke? "catching up with my beauty sleep, spas and manicures." and mild weather? really? Wyoming is far from mild. because sounds like you are the typical selfish liberal californian that when they have screwed up their community enough, and make it unlivable, they move to another state where they do the same. yeah, I used to live in California too. but I am very conservative, and the liberals forced me to leave

re: All That Glitters is NOT Gold - 3/14/2013 -
4/18/2013It is a shame that so many people have to stereo-type the Mormons. Miranna's posting is sprinkled with truths and exaggerated facts. A few real facts for you:
1. There are more Mormons in California than there is in Utah. It just seems like there are a lot, because there is a high concentration of them in the SLC valley.
2. Mormons do service, because they choose to be Christ-like, and to show they care. Not to try and convert you. YOU convert your self with this religion. They don't force it on you.
And what!! "prefer light skinned people" WHAT! are you a big-get or just ignorant! More than 60% of the LDS is "dark skinned" Latin American. Get real!
3. I find it extremely difficult to believe a Bishop would actually tell you your kids could not play with his. However, that being said. Mormons are human and imperfect just like all the rest, and there are a few that are clickish and do not set good examples. But a Bishop??? yeah right.
Very sad that people have to be so prejudice of others.
4. As for church and state seperation. I have lived in 3 other states, and they ALL allowed their students to leave campus to do their religious studies. Its not just Utah!
Lastly, Utah is not for everyone, and yes, I think there are a lot of "jack" Mormons in utah, and many that do not set a good example for their church. But why point fingers at them? do you point out the Baptist or Catholic who is not living up to their religious beliefs? If you don't want the influence of the LDS church in your life, then don't live in SLC. MOVE!

not what it used to be: -
2/13/2013I've lived her now for over 16 yrs. We moved here because the schools were 2nd best in the nation. The cost of living was low, and it was a good place to raise a family. That has changed. Schools are now among the worst. Crime has risen. Jobs are sparse. Cost of living is much higher. Due mainly because of all the screwy laws and bonds that have been passed by the liberals. if you want to start a small bus., keep in mind we have the second highest minimum wage, at $8.95/hr
ON a positive note: it has fresh air all the time, and fresh water. Plenty of outdoor things to do if you don't mind getting wet. It rains here about 8 months out of the year, and gray much of that. Summers are great. Now that our kids are out of the house, we are planning on moving to some place nice and dry and lower cost of living!

living in oregon -
1/21/2011I live in the Aloha area. Close to Hillsboro. I have lived here for almost 14 years. I have seen this area go down hill in the past 5 years. Sad. Time to move. If you like wet. Rain. Cold. Gray. Crime. Noise. Then move here.
