11/24/2008On the Seinfeld show Jerry said, "Lets all move to Florida and pretend its not hot!" Here in North Florida, we do get some cooler temperatures in the winter months: a few nights below freezing and, rarely, a dip into the teens. Still, it is quite likely you will be running your A/C at some point during the winter. The really hot, sticky, unpleasant weather gets here by May and lasts till sometime in October. If you haven't experienced Gulf Coast heat and humidity, be sure you do before deciding to move here. I have known more that one person to change their plans after visiting.
Tallahassee is in the top dozen cities for rainfall amounts. Unlike the constant drizzle in the Northwest U.S., we get tremendous down pours that often result in flooding of low areas including some roadways. Most of these areas are known to locals, but with new housing developments, sometimes people discover too late that their home is susceptible to flooding. And then, there are all the bugs and biting insects....
