Don't Believe the Numbers You See Here About Rifle -
1/19/2013The water here is so bad, hardly anyone actually drinks it. Everyone uses filtered or bottled water. That is why the Rifle City Council last year (2012) took it upon themselves, without consulting the town citizens - general public .. the masses ... the ignorant .. the ones who will be footing the bill - to take out a $25+ million loan in order to build a super water treatment plan for a town with a population of around 7,000 people. And that "scar" along the side of the hill is actually where all the uranium was placed and covered over with gravel. It took approximately 3 years for all the trucks to drive back and forth, hauling the uranium. Not to mention the RADON. Of course, most of the Rocky Mountains have radon gas. But it would be to anyone's BEST INTEREST to check up on the true conditions of these important items before making any kind of decision to move here. You will be paying EXTRA for the water treatment plant. Who knows when that will ever be built?! First the city has to replace all the old water pipelines ... and before that, they will need to locate them. Then there will be the additional expenses for safeguarding the new water treatment plant IF it is ever actually built. The new "homeland security" laws and the EPA had added a lot of expenses to water treatment plants. That was something the city council must have "forgotten" about or they surely would not have omitted it. Think twice before moving to the Rifle City Limits. You can do better than this!!!

WATER QUALITY MISLEADING -
1/28/2011I have lived in Rifle a number of years. I NEVER drink the water!!! I have had to replace numerous metal pipes in my home with heavy-duty plastic since the water corrodes them so badly. Most people I know have some kind of water filtration system in their homes. This is the WORST water I have been in contact with in YEARS and YEARS and it is sad to think it's in Colorado, not far from the mountains. The water should be a lot purer!! EPA allows the cities along the Colorado River on the western slope to discharge their "treated" waste water into the river. The smell is so bad around New Castle, I always close my vents on my vehicle. I have no clue how EPA rates the water as being so wonderful. They obviously don't drink it!!
