Huntington, WV | 4 Review(s)

Love the state of WV and encourage most people to move here. I think most people could definately be happy here but as with most places, it's not for everyone.

Hmmm. Someone from Morgantown (who likely visits Huntington once every year or two, if even that) trying to speak of what Huntington is like? That's laughable. And for folks who don't know, Morgantown and Huntington have a lot of animosity towardy each other due to the WVU and Marshall rivalry. The message by the above poster likely has a bit of an alterior motive. Sure crime happens here, but what place is devoid of it? Speaking of murders and crime, guess what? They happen in places like Morgantown too. Drugs and crime are increasing in many places but it has actually decreased for the last three years in Huntington. Revitalization in Huntington continues to gain momentum and the city posted year to year population gains for the first time in 15 or so years this past year. Goes to show how much someone from Morgantown knows about Huntington.

You and your wife would fit in just fine here. Thanks, in large part, to Marshall University and the hospitals in the area, there is diversity here. Is it as much as you are used to in San Fran, probably not but I don't think you would feel out of place either. Hope this helps.

Nice town to go to school in - 1/14/2008
Morgantown is a nice town to go to school in overall. The activities that were available through WVU were good and could keep the average student busy. My biggest gripe is that once you graduate, there's not a lot to do actually in Morgantown after you lose access to many WVU related activities. WVU also pretty much runs the town and whenever the city tries to do something positive, it often has to fight WVU to fend for the best interest of the residents. Residents often take a back seat to students as the ratio is about 1:1 and students will soon outnumber the residents if current growth continues.

Great place to live - 1/14/2008
I have to say that overall, Huntington is a wonderful place to live. Huntington has a good mix of people who are more often than not very friendly and willing to lend a hand when needed. The area has a lot to do including of museums, shopping, comedy club, lots of theater (on a local and national level), several film festivals, many seasonal festivals (the Greek fest has some amazing food), good concerts and Marshall athletics. The town does have some negatives but what town doesn't? It went through several years where it was on the decline but the town definately seems to be on an upswing again. The downtown area has come alive again with new shopping and several new/renovated condos being built right downtown. Marshall University is also seeing lots of new growth with several new buildings and new athletic facilities currently being constructed. If Huntington doesn't have what you want, several larger cities are just a few hours away by car or you can take a direct flight to several cities including 3 in Florida. With all it has to offer though, I believe Huntington is the best city in WV.
