Duluth, MN

Duluth, not my favorite. - 3/14/2021
It is the worse weather in the U.S. as far as small cities that large. The houses are fare below par. they are old shingle 1920s vintage generally and not normally well kept up. The people are narrow minded and very suspicious of outsiders and not that willing to accept. Schools seem to be O.K. but probably because they are not diversified like the rest of the country. Entertainment is limited and it seems that the only good place to actually go out and socialize is Grandmother's, by the bridge. I've lived in a dozen states: Minn., Neb., Colo., Calif., Ohio, N.C., S.C., Ga., and Florida. Duluth is the only place where I can say that I was overall very disappointed. The best time of the year is when smelting season is open and you can buy fresh smelt. It even seems that most lakes are fished out and replaced by trillions of mosquitos. It is said that the U.S. ends at Hinkley (75 miles south) and it seems true. Mush that you can get in the lower U.S. is not available up there towards the tundra. The lake is overrated. I find it grey and depressing and not worth buying fishing gear hoping to catch supper. We all have opinions and this is only an opinion. What I like and dislike is just my personal opinion. Many will feel differently.

Duluth is the worse city I have ever lived in. The weather is horrible, the lake is grey and depressing, the people are narrow minded and unfriendly. The houses are mostly shingle and ugly as hell and not that cheap. There are few places to go out and have fun except Grandmothers by the bridge. There is an old saying, "The world stops north of Hinkley". Hinkley is about 75 miles south of Duluth. Oh yes, the mosquitos are charming. too. People have different tastes, but be aware of what I have said. I normally love any place I have lived and there have been many places. Duluth is a nightmare as far as a permanent destination.

Racism?
- 3/14/2021
I can only speak for people that look like me (white). We have no issue with people. We have an issue with crime and bad behavior. There is quite a bit of crime here per capita and this explains my previous sentence. I have lived in Florida and taught school there. Florida, like North Carolina is diverse but that only is as good as the individuals that make it diverse. Asians and Hispanics around are great and have assimilated well. They are part of our great diversity. Bottom line, any state can be a racist state especially up north. If you want a place with no racial tensions, I suggest you move where racial diversity is void of bad people. Good luck with that.

I don't believe for one minute that you are a Floridian. You may live there now, but you are no Floridian.

What you are smelling is the smell of money. It is not pollution. It is not unhealthy. The only issue with Georgetown is that it has a thug issue and there are lots of crimes per capita. Fortunately, it has restricted itself to those bad areas mostly.

Columbus is O.K. - 3/14/2021
It is just O.K. It is an "average" place. Some very bad things and some very good. Overall, average to just a little above average thanks to the zoo, etc.

If you are bored in Charlotte, it is your own fault. Perhaps you don't have the type of personality that makes people wish to be part of your life. My guess is that you haven't been to places that are as big as Charlotte or are not used to getting out and being part of a city. There's lots out there. Go volunteer or get involved in the theater scene.

MMM must have been living in Mayberry before. Crime is high in some neighborhoods, not mine. traffic is getting worse, but better than other cities larger and comparable, taxes are still lower than those in northeastern states. Roads are in good shape and not bad as described. He is probably mad at the previous constuction of I-77 like most of us. Public schools don't seem to be that good to me considering the morons that are out rioting and causing crime in the inner cities, never the less, the school system is rated in the top half for academic achievement and graduation in the U.S. Drivers generally suck like the do in "all" U.S. cities. Besides, Most of the population is from either other countries or states. If you have been around, you will see that Charlotte generally exceeds other comparable cities in all aspects of life. Even though the city is ran by idiots with arrest records on the city council, they don't have the power or ambitions to get too involved in things that count. This is a financial giant and the city is wealthy and those are the ones that keep it going.

It is easy to tell that this Thomas is not a big city guy. Charlotte has over 2 million people and lovely neighborhoods and of course suburbs like all other sunbelt cities. The fact is that the crime in Charlotte is lower than the huge majority of cities of comparable population. There are bad parts of the city but smart people simply avoid them like people that live in other big cities and want to be safe.

Not for everyone
- 3/14/2021
Charlotte has the Lake crowd, the sports crowd, the party crowd, the theater crowd, the craft beer crowd and any crowd one wants. It is a city that is composed of 20 percent of the population from another country and overall 40 percent of the population from some other place. It is very pretty and clean. the biggest minus is that there is no ocean or mountain within 50 miles. It isn't NYC but must be better since it is the number #1 destination for that crowd.
