2/26/2011I have lived in the Bradley/Bourbonnais/Kankakee area for 6 years.it is a mix of farmland and industrial. We live in the farmland part. It stinks. Literally. You can smell the factories throughout the entire county. Kankakee County has the 2nd highest cancer rate in the state. The farmers use sludge(human waste) on their fields. Our local school constantly has problems with their water. There are 2 hospitals, and most of the doctors/medical providers are a joke. You r better off diagnosing yourself. Tons of empty buildings/abandoned and broken down businesses that are left to sit while the city tries to focus attention on building new establishments that end up not getting filled. There are no jobs unless you are a doctor, farmer, fast food worker or don't mind working in a nasty factory in the bad side of town or you don't mind working at a grocery store. There is no culture. The Bourbonnais Police are useless. They will not help you. They will tell you to call County or the neighboring city. Nothing EVER happens in their jurisdiction. There isn't a lot of crime where we live, but there is no good side of town. The entire county reminds me of a landfill with a few worthwhile buildings and houses grandfathered in just to "spruce it up a bit". It is very flat and tired. Nothing is kept up. We have more than enough gas stations, resale shops, drive thrus and antique malls to supply a couple of counties. We aren't even farmers. My husband makes car parts in a plant an hour north just about into Chicago. Not a place I would raise a family. Why are we still here??????
