Round Rock, TX

No regrets moving here - 11/30/2007
We moved our family to Round Rock September 2006. We'd lived in Los Angeles, CA and tried hard to raise a family there but we were struggling. The school system was the most trying, the public schools were merely a collection of trailers, no art, music, or PE. We also found that LA had become more and more overcrowded, dirty, and stressful.
Round Rock is a very family-orientated town 20 miles north of Austin. Many of our neighbors are from California and other states, in addition to some native Texans. We are a community where all races are welcome, as a multiracial family we have felt nothing but welcome. The public schools are of a good quality, our children have art, music, and wellness(PE) most days. They also ride the school bus, a novelty for them as we would never have permitted this in LA.
The weather is something I actually like, the summer I enjoyed as I like the heat. We did have some cold days last winter, even ice for 5 days, but the cold spells don't last too long.
We live in the Teravista community and enjoy knowing many people here. It's the type of neighborhood where people know and look out for each other's children.
Austin is a great town and we love to visit there, it is a city which supports family owned business and is not too keen on chains. We love to get away from the (Mostly) chain restaurants of Round Rock and eat out in Austin.

Mission Viejo, CA

Laura, I agree. We moved from CA for this very reason. Schools in CA should be a national shame. They are the same throughout LA also. Not a school, more a collection of trailers. No music, art, PE. Get out of CA Laura, it won't get any better. I met a lady here whose parents moved their family from CA in the 70's for the very same reason.
