5/12/2017I've lived in this area for a few years and I have never seen rotten food in the grocery stores or served to me in a restaurant. The ER is about the same as anywhere else a and I haven't had a problem finding a doctor.

Madison is nice for raising a family, but gets bor -
1/10/2017Madison is nice. The schools are excellent, which is why we chose to live here. The job market is good for anyone with an engineering degree or ex military, but for everybody else, there are a lot of low paying jobs. The cost of living is lower than major metropolitan areas. Most of the people are closed minded when it comes to gay people. They are very right winged and religious. I plan on moving in two years when my middle child graduates high school. Don't be surprised if your kids move out and don't stay in this area, especially if they are not from here, or don't plan on being engineers. Overall, this is a nice quiet area, but it gets boring.

Madison is a nice place to live -
4/12/2015We moved her about three years and we like it. Traffic on 565 isn't too bad except for rush hour, which is expected that time of day. The Madison city schools are good. We have three children, one in Columbia Elementary, one in Liberty Middle School and one at the "new" James Clemens high school. The teachers are really good and very dedicated. The are is pretty. There are lots of beautiful trees and plants. The people are friendly enough. It's nice that UAH, a major university is right in Huntsville for those that want to continue their education and there are other colleges in the area as well. Overall Madison is a nice place to raise a family.

Austin is over rated -
5/30/2013I lived in Austin for about 3 years. Austin definitely has a few gems, like Zilker Park, and Barton Springs pool, and plenty of good restaurants, but I really thought Austin as a whole is way over rated. Now that Austin has been "discovered" it has really gotten way too crowded. And because of that the traffic is unbearable. Austin is very hot too, that was the hardest for me to deal with. Also, if you are used to living in a state that is within a short drive to other surrounding states, you might feel a bit isolated.

Highly Over Rated City -
5/28/2013Just like the title says, Austin is highly over rated. Because it has been on so many best places to live lists, it has become very very crowded. Traffic is a nightmare and it is HOT. Very very HOT there. Austin does have a few gems and nice places to visit, but I just couldn't get past the heat and traffic. Austin is in central TX so I felt like I was so far away from the rest of the United States. I know a lot of people love Austin, and perhaps I would have liked it more maybe 20 years ago, before it was "discovered", but as is, right now, it just wasn't for me.
