Portland, MI

Normal Rockwell turned into a nightmare - 10/13/2019
Arrogant and ignorant- They believe nowhere is better than Portland and that they are some of the best people you could ever be around which tells you how small their world is. Passive aggressive to anyone not from Michigan, just looking for the soft spot to drive the knife in behind your back. The only thing nice about it were some of the views and some of the few people who were nice but that was it. The principal has got to be the worst I've ever had to deal with, cold hearted, aggressive and mean if she's still there. She fired a staff member for telling me who beat up my son saying it's a breach of privacy and yelled at me for wanting to know the details about what happened making me cry in front of the kids and then telling me to be quiet as I was crying. My son is gentle and sweet and has special needs. You will hear constant complaints on the Portland community page about kids getting bullied and nothing being done about it. This was including my own kids. Now a couple years later, both of my kids let me know they were touched in the "no no areas" (inappropriately) on the playground everyday "at the school in Portland". I had no idea and it explains a lot of the depression when they would come home from school and they refused to talk about school. Makes me sick and angry. We were constantly harrassed by intrusive management where we were renting wanting to do inspections every 90 days. One time they even tried to break in while we were home sitting in our pajamas eating breakfast. If you have made the mistake of moving here, make sure you have your camera phone handy and take videos of them doing stuff to you that isn't right. I found out too late that I should have been doing that all along. The last thing they want is to be caught on video of what they are really like and to be exposed. The look of this town screams Norman Rockwell painting. Our experience here though was more like a nightmare.
