Tampa, FL

Actually, the crime rate has gone DOWN over the last eight years and Tampa is relatively safe compared to other cities of similar size. I used to live in Memphis, where the criminal activity makes Tampa look like paradise. Like every other similar sized Town, it's all about location. I actually like the weather for about 9 months out of the year and the remaing admittedly extremely hot months are small price to pay for living somewhere without 4 feet of snow on the ground, like when I lived in CT. Right now times are a little tough everywhere in FL. It is just common sense to have a job lined up before you you even THINK about moving anywhere. We do have professional sports, an orchestra, a large University, museums and lots of great places to eat. Though people complain about traffic, it's nothing like Atlanta, though there are quite a few drivers who are a little crazy. Anyway, in general this is a great place to live.

We have lived in MB for three years, and like everywhere else, it has it's pluses and minuses. we love the beaches and the many terrific restaurants. my kids all finished high school here and are all doing well in College. Entertainment varies from the Branson like reviews, which we aren't that into, to our small but terrific symphony, which we love. There are also several small theater companies, an aquarium, and there are always lot's of local festivals, some better than others. There is almost always something going on at Coastal Carolina University as well.We are a rapidly growing area with some growing pains. Lots of traffic during tourist season, and increased crime during that time as well. Road expansion going on continually to keep up. On the other hand, more of a small town feel in the winter months. We do have quite a few tacky beachwear outlets, but they make quite a contribution to the local economy. We do have beach bums, mostly harmless old alcoholics stuck in the sixties. Anyone who says there is nothing to do is delusional. So again, a mixed bag, but all in all an enjoyable place to live.

Savannah, GA

Crime not so bad as folks say - 11/4/2010
Savannah's crime rate is actually about the same as other southern cities of similar size and lower than places like Charleton, SC and Knoxville, TN, just as examples. By far, the greatest number of crimes are property crimes rather than personal crimes, so don't be deterred. An awesome place to live with a relatively low cost of living.
