Came home out of what felt like "COVID exile" ... -
10/15/2022I grew up in neighbouring Cerritos and back in the 70's and 80's I noticed that even though I was always glad to grow up in a safe, good neighbourhood and go to what turn out to be excellent schools (I went to Whitney) I always thought that Artesia seemed more "down to Earth" and more "normal" although my friends at Whitney and neighbours in Cerritos would probably prefer to call it "full of gangs" and "dangerous" and definitely "don't walk through it by yourself at night" especially down 166th between Pioneer and Norwalk. Well, I'm now 51 years old and recently returned to the area, to live in the house again as a "senior citizen" with no car, no driver's licence, and inheriting the house. And I'm glad to see that Artesia now has a free BUS system that at least runs 3 days a week and runs every 45 minutes instead of Cerritos' COW that only runs once every hour. Also, a big plus: I came home after being overseas or at least "away" for 12 years, to find out that this COVID thing has hit my house, all my books are gone, and lo and behold the Artesia library has been rebuilt and is all new and almost everything in there is new (I have yet to receive a laptop loan so I should hold off the praise on their stuff being all "new" and in good condition...) I come home from what feels like "exile" and find that my library is all-new and bigger and pretty and NICE. And at least 3 days a week there's a free bus to take me to it. This is pretty good for a town of only about 12,000.
