Village of Oak Creek (Big Park), AZ | 1 Review(s)

I grew up in Tampa, Florida, the 2nd of 4 sisters. I continued on to Atlanta, Ga for my education to be a Registered Nurse at Grady Memorical Hospital School of Nursing and Georgia State University. Upon graduation I met my husband, who was a young U.S. Army officer. We went on to lead a wonderful 28 year military life, and moved every 2 or 3 years. We lived in 10 States, Germany and Belgium. We raised three terrific sons, who have all now graduated from college and moved on to careers and children of their own.

I worked as a nurse as we moved from place to place. I also earned a BS in Business Administration from St. Thomas Aquinas College while we were stationed at West Point, NY. When my husband retired from the military as a Colonel in 1999, he took a job at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ, but we decided to live in beautiful Sedona.

At that time, I decided I wanted a career change and chose to become a real estate agent. It has been a wonderful match for me as it uses many of the same skills I had developed in nursing, and has allowed me to continue helping people. My attention to detail and respect for legalities continue on as well. Real Estate requires much patience and long hours, but gives me great joy and brought wonderful & interesting new friends into my life.

We have lived in Sedona nine years now and I never take its beauty for granted. It attracts people from many different backgrounds and from all over the world. There are activities and interests for all to pursue here. It is welcoming to newcomers and always interesting. We have never regretted our decision to move here.

Wonderful Southwest Climate in Sedona - 3/30/2008
Having lived in 10 states and 3 countries, I can honestly tell you that Sedona has the best climate of anywhere I've lived. We are located at about 4000 ft. above sea level. We do have 4 seasons, but they are on the mild side for the southwest.
Sedona gets about 2-3 snowfalls a year, which is absolutely spectacular on the Red Rocks, but it has melted by the afternoon. No snowplows necessary. I believe we have about 10 days over 100 degrees/yr. Whatever you see for Phoenix temperature on the news, figure we are 10-15 degrees cooler and we are about 10 degrees warmer than Flagstaff. July is the hottest month with average high being 96 degrees. Our coolest month is January with the high average being 52 degrees and average low being 37 degrees.

The highest himidty months are mid-July through mid-September which runs with the monsoon season. Some years the monsoon brings frequent rains during that time, and other years it doesn't produce the rains we'd like.

Overall, it offers great year round weather, though the best weather months are March, April, May, October & November, which correspond to our busiest tourist months as well.
