It isn't scary, for Heaven's sakes, and it has changed even between 1991, when I moved there, and now. There are a lot of very liberal people and even old hippies, if you find that scary.

Climate better than other reviewer stated - 12/11/2016
I think the other reviewer's comments about the climate are affected by her living up here only for 50 years, so not much of a comparison. I have lived in Tennessee and southern Illinois for many years, and here for not quite three years. The winters are, obviously, cold and brutal compared to what I have known before, though no doubt worse some other places. However, the summer is great, because compared to further south, it is not humid and seems to run 10-20 degrees cooler than where I have lived, where it gets to 100 some days and certainly the 90's with high humidity. The people up here say it is "humid" when it isn't to me like I say it is "cold" when it isn't to them. There are four seasons, not two like the other reviewer said. Winter is cold and fairly long though, but the roads are tended to better than other places might be in that kind of weather, which helps. Not recommended though if you get depressed in Winter or really hate Winter. But if you can manage a crappy Winter and hate heat, it might be a good choice. I hate heat, so I love the Summer here. Not a fan of the Winter though. I have always lived where there are four seasons and it snows, but it melts much quicker in those places.
