My husband and I retired to Montrose 7 years ago. He had 2 sisters, a niece and a brother-in-law who lived here when we moved. Sadly, our brother-law-law died a while ago from cancer, and one of his sisters is thinking about moving to be closer to her children.
We LOVE Montrose!!!!! We bought our home in a depressed market and it has appreciated by $142,867 in just 7 years!!!!! We also pay over $4,000 LESS/year on our property taxes than where we came from, Marion, IA (next to Cedar Rapids, IA)!!!!!
There is a LOT to DO here, but it depends on what you like to do. We like to hike and we are only 45 minutes to forest hiking and 30 minutes to high desert hiking by the awesome Black Canyon. If you like to swim or jog, we have a recreation facility that is only about 2 years old. The river downtown has a new area where you can kayak or paddle board. If you like to ride a bike, there are LOTS of bike trails—our city is biker friendly.
We have a lot of festivals and a farmers’ market in the summer. We live about 70 minutes away from Grand Junction, where you can go to the symphony as well as other cultural events. Grand Junction is also the home of the Colorado Monument.
I think the people ARE friendly. If you come to OUR church, Rosemont Baptist, we are ALL very friendly—visitors say that often. May the Lord lead you in your move. God bless you!
