Trashy, Gang Infested & Over Priced Housing -
7/6/2018I have lived in Lawton for 3 years.
As for the housing:
I have lived in a decent part and now I live in the wealthy part of Lawton. I no longer hear gun shots in the wealthy part, however, the people in the wealthy neighborhood are old bigots. The housing market is overpriced, however, compared to out of state homes it is much cheaper.
As for the social environment: You can enjoy pretty much do everything in one day here. Shopping is like any other town, same franchises and nothing unique about the mom and pop places. A few museums and a few places to sight-see is it. Same old, same old with the clubs-except these clubs can from time to time have brawls and shootings.
As for the academic environment: The university feels like a big high school. Most of the students are educated from part-time instructors, with very few doctorate level professors teaching. Nothing outstanding or noteworthy about Cameron University.
As for the job market: The job market is pretty poor. People with college degrees would be better off moving out of Lawton or the state for this matter. The State of Oklahoma use to be good employer, however, they no longer permanently hire people for good salaries. Most of the people here rely on government welfare to carry them.
As for the weather: The climate is pretty harsh. It has hot and humid summer that usually lasts from May to September. It can be very dry. The fall is short and last for about a few months. The winter is unpredictable. Winter can last for a few months or up to 4 or 5 months. Every year the weather is different.
As for the people: Most of the people in this town are trashy. Even some of the wealthy residents act very classless and greedy. Going to the dentist is like going to the car salesman- I've been to two different ones here. Everyone wants to sell you something.
The people born here are distinguished into many categories: white supremacists, gang members, fundamental (wacko) christians mixed with other cults, military trash and some educated folks make up most of Lawton.
As for the town or city: This isn't a city, this is more like a town. The law enforcement is useless, as I reported drug dealers to them with little effect.
Networking is hard unless you have money, have military service or go to the mega churches. The town is not friendly to outsiders.
