I'll admit people drive fast on the freeways but I like that, we just want to get to our destination quick and get out of our cars and enjoy the weather.

Amen, I bet the many complainers in here who moved somewhere new are complaining about that place too! Apparently people expect to live in utopia or paradise wherever they move.

maybe you didn't have a good experience b/c you brought that crappy east coast attitude with you! The fact that it bothers you people are laid back and not worried and "full of hardship" all the time is YOUR PROBLEM. This is a laid back city with a laissez faire attitude and not that BS east coast crap.

re: So much potential in SD squandered..... - 11/2

You are so full of yourself!! Why do you even bother trying to compare San Diego to places like SF, LA, Boston, ect... Compare SD to places more in line with its population and demographics like Tampa, Cleveland, ect.... Portland is the only city you mention that is worth comparing. You sound like some typical self righteous, psuedo intellectual city snob who thinks they are smarter and better than everyone else. Some of us are very educated and successful but don't care for that artsy culture crap. You complain about meatheads, well what about pansy wannabe hipsters; same freakin difference!

And you think all those cities you listed don't have sprawling monotonous suburbs too? I grew up in the SF Bay Area and trust me there is plenty of lifeless sprawl there too and don't even get me started on LA.

Seriously just look at the BS you said. You want SD to be like NYC, SF, Boston, Seattle ect.... But you want it to have beaches like Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. And on top of that you complain about the crowds at the beaches. So you want a big, urban city with a tropical beach setting but you don't want crowds at the beach!?!?!?! Are you that delusional? You love the weather then complain about how it's dry and brown. Part of the reason people love the climate is because it rarely rains and we don't have severe weather, which comes from being in an arid climate.

People like you will never be happy no matter where they live. You want it all and complain when you can't. Find one city in the world that fits all of your narrow criteria. Yes SD lacks in some ares and excels in other areas, LIKE ALL CITIES! You think the beaches here are cold, have you ever swam in the ocean by SF? Have you ever been to the beaches in NY or Boston in winter? I can't believe how just utterly stupid you are yet don't realize what a tool you are. Please do not stay in San Diego b/c we don't need your negative "grass is always greener on the otherside" mentality bringing down the nice people of San Diego.

re: Beautiful Northern California - 5/1/2006

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and grew up in Walnut Creek and trust me, IT'S OVERRATED. I love it when Bay Area natives say is the best place on earth to live and they would never live anywhere else and have actually never lived anywhere else! So they don't even know what they are talking about. And what ocean can you swim at in Northern CA?? The water is too cold year round, you can only swim in the ocean in Southern CA. The ocean and ski resorts are about 4-5 hours apart, so no one is skiing and surfing in the same day. The weather sucks in WC, cold in winter then hot as hell in the day in summer then cold at night. I love my hometown b/c it's a good place to grow up but it's overrated and becoming more pretnetious.

Why would you move to San Diego if you love 4 seaons type weather???? That makes no sense, it's like loving the snow and mountains and moving to Florida! You mention there is no feeling of community b/c of all of the transplants yet YOU ARE A TRANSPLANT! so blame yourself partly for that one. You live 1.5 miles from the beach and drive all the time, ever heard of walking or a bike; talk about lazy. You seriously need to take a look in the mirror.

Do people that move here and complain not realize - 12/17/2007
I've been reading these negative posts about San Diego and I can't believe how stupid people are.

People complaining about the gorgeous year round weather b/c it doesn't change enough and there is no varety. What exactly were you expecting in a city known for yearound sunshine and 70 degree weather? If you love the snow and mountains would you move to Florida then complain too? Most people like this weather b/c it is so mild and comfortable all the time. If you like seasons and extreme weather then what the hell would prompt you to come to San Diego?

Then you get all these pretentious, pseudo intellectual snobs complaining about how SD lacks the culture found in NYC, SF, LA, Boston, ect... About how people here are not as sophisticated as other cities, ect... WHY WOULD YOU EVEN COMPARE SAN DIEGO TO A CITY LIKE NYC, LA, Boston, SF? Compare some apples to oranges while you are at it. Compare San Diego to cities more in line with it's population and demographics like Cleveland, Portland, Minneapolis, Pittsburg, Tampa, ect....and not these Alpha world cities. San Diego may lack some of the big city culture found in NY, LA, or wherever but it's also a lot less pretentious and full of itself like those places. And you can tell who are some of those pretentious, psuedo intellectual wannabe snobs are by talking about how people in SD are a bunch of "meatheads" and aren't intellectual enough. Some people love SD b/c it lacks that SF, NYC, LA type douchebags that think they are so smart and cultured when they are really idiots who have too high of an opinion of themself. San Diegan's are some of the nicest and most outgoing people in CA. If you think San Diegan's are rude, mean, or whatever then I suggest you take a look in the mirror b/c then you'd probably find your answer on why people here are rude to you. Rude, obnoxoous, self centered people will attract similar types, so maybe it's YOU and not other people that are the problem b/c I think San Diegan's are great.

Some people complained it is conservative. Well did you expect a city with a long military history and a plethora of military installations to be some really liberal paradise? I'm not conservative but I can put up with the conservatism here compared to Orange County. It's pretty moderate overall and if people's politics bother you that much then stop calling yourself liberal or open minded, b/c not accepting other people's values and beliefs for what they are is pretty damn close minded and untolerant. And do you think if the city was really liberal it would be any better? Quality of life in San Francsisco is worse than San Diego.

The city is not perfect and anyone who moved here thinking it would be is an idiot and I hope they leave with their negative attitudes. SD doesn't try to be something it's not, unlike places like SF. We don't pretend to be some wannabe European-esque, cultural mecca of the west coast. We don't need or want all that pretentious high culture crap found in places like SF, La, NYC, Boston, DC or whatver that some of you complain about. We like our beaches, weather, having a good time, ect....sorry if some of you prefer ballets, political activism, overspending on resturants, or whatever but San Diegan's know how to enjoy life. The city lacks in some areas and excels in some areas, LIKE ALL CITIES. What SD lacks compared to SF, NYC, LA, Boston, ect..it makes up for in other areas and vice versa. Seriously some of you will NEVER be happy where you are. You want the high culture crap of SF, NYC, Boston but want nice weather and a beach setting and laid back lifestyle; YOu can't have it all you greedy idiots.

San Diego is a great city and if you can't appreciate what it has to offer then either try to do something about and make a difference or shut the hell up and move away.

San Diego, CA

best weather in the country! - 12/17/2007
San Diego has one of the best climates in the nation. It is always a comfortable temperature near the coast and never too hot or cold. Doesn't rain often, low humidity, and plentiful sunshine. If you are expecting 4 seasons and changing weather then you obviously looked into the wrong place to move, that's like people moving to FL and expecting snow.
