8/22/2008Can someone explain the high tax structure thing to me? I keep reading about high taxes in Maine, and while the income tax is 1 percentage point higher than in my current state (Rhode Island), the property taxes seem to be far lower (i.e. my house, valued around 240K, is around $3500/year for property tax - I've seen nothing like that in what I've looked at in Maine). Can someone post some real numbers for me to compare?

Kind of a mess right now... -
1/8/2008Cumberland seems to be in a bit of a growth spurt and it doesn't quite know what to do about it! The high school is undergoing massive renovations (that have gone on into school time, at times endangering the kids) and there have been numerous bonds passed to fund this. As a parent, I'm happy that my kids will eventually go to a new(ish) high school, but I'm thinking of moving to neighboring Lincoln before that happens.
Our mayor, btw, is proposing a charter school with local cities including Central Falls and I believe Pawtucket. Not too sure how I feel about that but at least he's trying to think outside of the box!
