re: Reverse Discrimination - 12/8/2010 -
6/25/2011I went to graduate school in San Antonio in 1976 and even then bilingual capability was typically required to work downtown. The population was 51% Hispanic, with many families predating the Texas Revolution. Texas was, after all, Mexico at one time. I loved San Antonio but found it necessary to relocate after graduation to find work, not due to language issues but due to my field being saturated by retired military willing and able to work for less. That's just life.

re: Very High Crime - 10/3/2007 -
6/25/2011I've been living in central Mexico for over 5 years. Despite all the spectacular press, crime doesn't seem to affect most of us (expatriates). The Mexicans are, for the most part, tolerant of us, which is somewhat amazing when you consider the historical relations between the two countries (I'm a US citizen). I am planning to return to the US and have fancied that I would like living in Corpus Christi since I was a young man but things just never worked out. Nonetheless, the crime rates seem a little high and that is a scary matter for me.
