Red Oak, TX

Not what it used to be - 9/11/2009
The small, charming country town that I moved to 26 years ago sadly doesn't exist anymore. Our city is poorly governed and that is one major reason why business interest in Red Oak is low, while neighboring communities increasing their tax bases with new retail. No major retailer wants to deal with the good 'ol boy system that is pervasive in Red Oak. Like any other city, I have met plenty of nice people who have chosen to move here, but the attitude of some recent arrivals is one of elitism. They look down on the longtime residents and think that they are better than all others in the city as well as those who live in the surrounding communities – its just sickening. Some of the things that I have heard them say about any person outside of their particular "clique" are so prejudiced and degrading that inclusion of it in this statement get me banned from posting anything else on this site. I don't move because I lack the means to do so and my house is paid off. This city has gone downhill and will continue to do so with out significant change.
