Not political, just my opinion. -
1/14/2007Talk about a bad economy. This town and Carbondale can top the list in my book. I've a B.S. Degree from SIU-C and have yet to use it in this area. I do own my own business, and still can't make ends meet. We are loosing businesses right and left. New owners take over and then close them out, or there is not enough disposable income to support them. Failing or already failed businesses include: Michael's, Kay's Merchandise, K-Mart,Maytag plant (Herrin), and just about every other store in the vicinity of the University Mall. The only jobs are in health care and the University, if you can't get on there, don't come here, unless you like working for minimum wage. The only people who can make it here are those in health care, work for the University, or are people who don't need money to live. The saving grace of this area...the people who live here.
