San Angelo, TX

Not for everyone. Maybe just you.

I happen to like San Angelo, and feel your review was spot on. I happen to like the Downtown area and the veterans river walk park area. Everything I need is here in town, and I like its laid back vibe. They say its isolated, and in a way that's true if they are talking about large cities near by, but again as you pointed out Dallas and Austin are only 3 hours away, and that is not uncommon for Texans to drive those distances on a regular basis. But there are many smaller towns scattered all around San Angelo, and makes for a great Day Trip starter city. Also Goodfellow AFB being near by is great for Vets like myself who enjoy the X-change and camaraderie of fellow service people.

GREAT SMALL TOWN FEEL - 11/22/2022
I like Pleasanton, it needs to look into a Beautify Pleasanton campaign, as the city does have a lot of blight... but it is a very charming city that seems to be growing and getting better all the time. The Park here has a river walk, and an awesome Skate park that the community has embraced and offers lessons to the kids and so forth. They have plenty of events in said park as well. We have an Awesome HEB and a AL*Mart that needs to be updated and better management, but it does the job for our area. There is a real sense of community here, and local pride, people seem to be genuine and friendly. Being outside of San Antonio but yet still close enough to visit is nice. I really do like it here, and feel the city has everything I need in my life, good shopping, food, and plenty of local flair to entertain me. I would love to see the Theater downtown to get some awesome murals on the side of it and the city to look into some beatification projects, because the downtown area, even though small has lots of charm.

Reconsider
- 3/26/2006
El Paso, Tx is not all bad. It has a nice climate, if you like HOT. But El Paso is Land locked, the closet large city is 4-6 hours away. Jobs are hard to find here. And unless you know Spanish, you wont find anything at all. El Paso already has major traffic problems, and with 40-80 thousand more military families coming to El Paso by 2008, the roads will be heck to traverse. And any job opertunities will be even harder to find. El Paso has little to any green, like grass trees etc.. and the Rio-grand is about empty since New Mexico has it all damed up, Mexicans can just walk across without any effort at all. Gang activity is on the rise, and the low economy also breads many projects and crime activities. Crime is also on the rise, Home prices are also on the rise, homes near where I live are in the 160-240 thousand range, where they used to be 40-60K. The Local area public schools are a joke and education is poor. El Paso, is 77% hispanic arcording to various web sites.. but that is only because most hispanics do not fill out the census, either because they are illegal, or fear the goverment, and the percentage is much higher. Unless you are forced to move to El Paso by a Military or business move, I would consider not moving here.

Born And Raised
- 3/26/2006
I was born in El Paso TX, have lived here most my life. The City has its nice points, for instance the weather is warm and dry. I guess thats why they call us the SUN CITY. Violent Crime seems to be low, but is on the rise. Fort Bliss Army post is growing by leaps and bounds. The cost of living here is very low, but if your looking for work, good luck. being so close to the border, you will need to know Spanish to find employment even at the local burger joints. With some 40-80 thousands military familes coming to the area by 2008, the already congested roads will be hell to traverse, and hopes of any employment on or off post will be even harder to find. Gang activity is also on the rise, with nightly news reports of gang violence and graffeti. The schools here are aweful, unless you go private schools, but most of them are catholic schools. Unless you have to move here as part of a Military move, I would reconsider moving here. Yes there are worse places in the world to live, but ther are also many far better than El Paso TX.

About El Paso
- 2/16/2006
I was born and raised here, El Paso has had a downward twist since the early 90's. If you like the color brown you'll love El Paso. The people, the land, everything is brown here. There is little if any rain here, so its dry and dusty. If your looking for work, good luck. With the influx of military here, your chances are slim to none of finding work, and even if you do, expect pay rates well below what your used to. Another problem finding work here is you must know spanish in order to work even at burger joints. Fort Bliss and Biggs are growing by leaps and bounds, but the city is not ready for the influx of soldiers and families coming here.. we already have California like conditions on our roads, another 20-40 thousand people will only make it worse. Crime is also on the rise with all the CAV soldiers coming to Fort Bliss, so the low crime rates you hear about are changing. All in all I would not move here if I had other options. El Paso has a way of keeping you down.
