Snellville, GAThis USED to be the place to raise a family...
It's not anymore. :(
Snellville used to be a beautiful place with plenty of diversity. Now...it is seeing more growth...and less diverstiy. In fact, the demographics of the school system has only one caucasian child in a class of Hispanics, those who claim African descent, and those from other areas like Haiti, Jamaica, and the polynesian areas. There is also a marked increase in the welfare benefits school children are getting...and it is hard to ignore the fact that that increase is consistent with the change in demographics.
What used to be a middle class family-oriented town has now become a lower-class, single parent town.
While there are the "stalwarts" in the area...those who have lived here and plan to die here, the younger and more "resourceful/productive" population is moving out. It's the stalwarts who keep the city going. The library system, fathered by the county is still amazing. There are still some wonderful things about the area...Briscoe Park, Lenora Park, Five Forks Park...Brookwood High School...but those almost seem to be overshadowed by the "type" of people we now see walking down the street.
Political tensions are high - and it's likely becoming even more unsafe for republicans to voice support of a candidate.
Snellville used to be the place to raise a family...it's just not anymore.
