Dreary -
10/28/2008Dreary, bleak and dull especially in winter. That about summarizes it. Unattractive three block narrow downtown has nothing to offer; most of the shopping is "Southside Mall" a long hike if you don't have a car. Limited cultural and social activities if you're not into bars. Despite being in the middle of the wilderness there are few outdoor activities like in the Catskills to the east. Basically a hick and college town.

re: Take a nice vacation in Vermont. But live som -
11/15/2007When it comes to spending money, liberals, socialists and other "out-of-the-mainstream wackos" are rank amateurs compared to the war criminals & corporate puppets in the White House who are spend a TRILLION of OUR tax dollars butchering and slaughtering innocent people who did nothing to us and stealing their oil so that their cronies can get more billion$$$.

Best of both worlds -
10/6/2007You get the best of both worlds: Relatively close to NYC yet close to rural areas. Near the big city without the congestion (except on I95). Nearby there are beaches, woods, cities, small towns. I prefer it to Stamford - less congested, nicer houses, less polluted. Income & property taxes are somewhat lower than NYC. Property taxes are higher but house prices are lower.

A tale of 2 cities -
5/17/2006It's ridiculous to talk about NYC as 1 city. There is a wide variety of neighborhoods from Douglaston, a ritzy enclave in Queens to the hell holes of the South Bronx, Bed/Sty, Harlem and Hells Kitchen. Of course most people think of Manhattan as NYC. There's just about every service you could want but I can't understand how people can live in that overcrowded, loud, smelly, dirty mess.
