Boise City, ID

re:
Great Good Ole Boys, misogynistic subpar - 3/23/2021
As a Boise native, AND a fifth generation Idaho native, I agree with you, other than how all natives treat others as "outsiders"...I've never done that. My thoughts have always been that if a city isn't growing, it's dying...so, I've always thought new blood was good...BUT, everything else, I agree with. This is an AWFUL place to be a working woman...and IF you're a single Mom, working woman, Boise employers will clearly make you decide to either be an employee or a mother. We also have extremely low wages here, and skyrocketing housing costs...and our government isn't willing to change a thing. Many other cities across the country started adopting a higher minimum wage when the housing started to skyrocket...not Boise...I know many people that are stuffing 2 families into a one family house, JUST so they have a roof over their heads, they can no longer afford a place of their own...and the homeless population is also raising like crazy, because of extreme low wages, and out of control housing prices. I have heard that Idaho is "The South of the North", This pandemic has highlighted that SO clearly. Lack of education, lack of common sense, not believing in science, and the thought that wearing a mask to protect your community is somehow a lack of personal freedom. I have never been more appalled and embarrassed to be a resident in Boise Idaho...these people now are petty, sexist, self serving, and many are down right senseless...

Wages are pathetic! - 5/30/2018
Boise is a beautiful city. It has some amazing people. It's a great place for outside recreation. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to live there. I hope ANYONE trying to decide if they should move to Boise, checked out the 2 sections, 1 being housing costs, the other being wages. Idaho in general has the lowest wages of the nation. The federal minimum wage is 7.25 an hour, and Boise is over run by minimum wage jobs, which puts buying a house out of reach, and rent has become astronomical. It's literally a city where people work JUST to put a roof over their head, and many can't even afford that, let alone putting any money aside for a rainy day or an emergency, or any kind of recreation. YES, the city has PLENTY of jobs...but VERY FEW at a living wage. Also, Idaho did not expand medicaid, so those that are making minimum wage or just above, do NOT have ANY opportunity for health insurance. They literally have to go without and hope for the best. Idaho also ranked dead last for their treatment of working women, it truly shows in Boise...no family leave, very few jobs with sick leave, and if you're scheduled, you better be there, or start looking for another job. They don't care if your kid is sick or your Dad had a heart attack...get to work! I am a third generation Boisean, and a fifth generation Idahoan. I chose to leave Boise, and the state altogether, because the local government has stacked all of the cards against the citizens. I have wanted to get out of Boise for a long time now, but couldn't afford to. It took my Dad passing and the settling of his estate to scrape enough money together to get out...IF you come to Boise, plan on being STUCK there, for you too will not be able to afford to leave.
