re: This city girl is bored to tears in Austin! - -
6/9/2012Colleen, you cannot be serious. I'm a native Houstonian attending grad school at UT, and the traffic in ATX is tremendously better than in Houston. I'm from the Cypress area, and just driving to my former offices in Upper Kirby would take me at least an hour each way. Have you ever been on Southwest Freeway and NOT worried about dying, because nobody's giving you a lane change at 70 MPH?
I can go from Riverside up to the UT campus in 20 minutes tops. That's just plain amazing.
Though I will admit, once you get a red light in Austin, it's as if you've gotten a red light forever.

What is there for young twentysomethings to do in -
6/9/2012Full disclosure: I'm a Houston native, so growing up I knew suburbia was boring, but I never realized just how boring until I left for college in New Orleans and then went to graduate school in Austin. Being back in Houston for the summer holidays with my parents has only reinforced my feelings on just how boring this city is for young people.
Sure, if you're a middle-aged parent with kids and are looking for the stereotypical ''American dream'' bedroom community, you'll get it in Houston.
Where are the clubs, the bars, the nightlife, the music scenes? Where are fun places to go out on dates? Certainly, you're not going to get Manhattan, but it would help to not wonder which fast food joint gives you the illusion of community.
In short, this city's ideal for the family-values crowd. Not so much for the young and restless.

re: Put Cypress On The Map - 3/28/2008 -
6/9/2012You must be joking. Cypress is astoundingly boring. Especially when you're a twentysomething singleton, there's simply nothing to do. Sure, there's a couple of places in downtown, but who wants to commute for 1.5 hours each way just to visit a couple of bars?
