San Antonio, TX

Sunshine, natural beauty, songbirds, parks - 1/12/2020
I left sunny San Antonio 5 years ago (for the Midwest) after 17 years, and miss it every single day. It’s a beautiful city and the cultural blend is what makes it special. I was an avid gardener and due to reliable sunshine every day, my health improved dramatically. Top notch medical specialists. I walked 3-5 miles daily, ate fresh fruits and vegetables (very low food costs w/ no taxes) and lived in a beautiful tree lined landscaped neighborhood near the foothills. My neighbors were the nicest people I’ve ever known, with everyone helping each other when needed. And it’s beautiful and green year round with blooming shrubs, colorful crepe myrtles and semi evergreen live oaks and Monterrey oaks. The birdsong elevates your soul. The only negatives: property taxes that are triple the national average, expensive water bills, HACKERS from the military are a HUGE problem, theft from garages left open for only minutes. NOTE: The only people who ruined things for me were jealous Caucasians, NOT Hispanics. The SAPD is also corrupt. It’s a military town but with a wonderful artistic flair in various parts. And, it’s close to Austin. Wish I could move back because I’m dying from gray skies, humidity and the crappy doctors in my current midwestern rural shit hole.
