8/5/2006Boise is a potential retirement destination for me and my wife. Also considering Arizona. We are from Long Island, NY (Suffolk Co.). My pension is not enough to support us here, because the phony and crooked politicians and real estate people have made it so expensive with house prices, property taxes, etc. Many people here are struggling, but the media only shows you the rich snobs from New York, not the working stiffs. Anyway, I hope you people in Boise are watching your political officials very closely. Be careful how they spend your tax money, if they hire cronies and relatives for government jobs, and who benefits, and who gets ultimately screwed. I would like to know if areas of boise city are prone to flooding from the Boise River, and anything else somebody has to add about the pluses and minuses of moving to Boise. No place on earth is perfect, but looks like Boise is more affordable than many other areas.

7/23/2006I have lived in Suffolk County all of my life with the exception of 4 years in the Marines. It is basically a decent place. The problem is the school taxes, property taxes, overall cost here, is prohibitive. If you have a good job, you will enjoy the area. Many people work hard on Long Island, some working two and three jobs to make ends meet. As a retiree, I am considering selling my home and moving to Arizona in the near future. It is smart to check out places on this great web site before making a move, and take into consideration the negative as well as the positive feedback. This helps you to be realistic, as all areas of the country have pluses and minuses to consider.

7/22/2006I live in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. I have met a lot of nice people having lived here all my life, and a few rude idiots. Overall, I think most New Yorkers are really ok, and only the rude ones make it bad for the perception of us. Anyway, we were considering relocating to Las Vegas to retire. But I am not sure. There is a lot of negativity in backfence comments, but I appreciate the honest evaluations from ordinary people. The biggest fear my wife has is about renting a place with roaches and even seeing one scorpion. I may put Las Vegas off the list if the bugs and scorpions are a real problem. Appreciate feedback about scorpions and anything else.
